Enabling deeptech platforms
We believe some of the most important companies of the next decade will come from overlooked technical breakthroughs rather than crowded hype cycles.
We are especially drawn to companies with strong technical differentiation, defensible intellectual property, clear unmet market need, and the potential to unlock entirely new capabilities across large markets.
We invest in companies pursuing technically ambitious work with the potential to create real commercial and industrial impact.

Douglas Munsey is an entrepreneur, investor, and healthcare operator focused on identifying compelling early-stage deeptech opportunities and supporting portfolio companies as they grow.
Prior to founding EGB Capital, Douglas helped launch the Olympus Innovation Fund at Touchdown Ventures. He began his investment career as an analyst at Morgan Stanley covering the medical technology sector.
Earlier in his career, Douglas was one of the first employees at medical device manufacturer Ki Mobility, where he held a range of operating roles spanning purchasing, logistics, and data analysis. He helped the company scale to more than $60 million in revenue and supported its sale to ETAC.
Douglas was also a co-founder of Syntax Bio, a synthetic biology platform focused on precision cell differentiation. The company has raised capital from prominent biotech investors and secured a development partnership with Astellas Pharmaceuticals.
As an angel investor, Douglas has made more than a dozen investments in early-stage companies.
He holds a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and both an M.P.H. and M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Luke Riggan is an immunologist and biotech founder.
He founded ImmunoVec, a gene and cell therapy spinout from UCLA, giving him first-hand experience taking a technology out of an academic lab and building a company around it.
At EGB Capital, Luke advises on scientific diligence across therapeutics, cell engineering, and enabling biology platforms, helping assess the technical foundations behind early-stage opportunities.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
“Doug gives useful and pointed strategic advice without being overbearing. He is particularly capable at translating technical capabilities into viable commercial approaches.”
“Douglas has supported CellFE from the beginning and believed in us before anyone else. His advice and support have been instrumental in getting the company to where it is today.”
“Doug has always had Syntax’s best interests in mind. Through thick and thin, he has been there when very few investors, or none, have been there for the company.”
Whether you’re a founder building in deeptech or an investor interested in learning more about EGB Capital, we’d be glad to hear from you.
